WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following impeachment hearing testimony by the NSC’s former top Russia expert, Dr. Fiona Hill, and David Holmes, an aide at the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, People For the American Way Senior Fellow Elliot Mincberg released the following statement:

“Witnesses provided important and riveting testimony this morning. Renowned expert Dr. Fiona Hill debunked the ‘false narrative’ of Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election, decimating a key Republican talking point. She also refuted the baseless claims of improper conduct by Vice President Biden, which President Trump pushed Ukrainian President Zelensky to investigate. David Holmes provided a comprehensive view of events since 2017, leading to his conclusion that vital US policy objectives in Ukraine became ‘overshadowed by a political agenda’ on Trump’s behalf. He also testified that he heard first-hand Trump’s phone conversation asking Ambassador Sondland whether Zelensky would pursue ‘the investigation’ the day after the July 25 White House phone call. Overall, the marathon work by the Intelligence Committee, including hearing from nine witnesses in three days, has provided powerful evidence against Trump.”

Elliot Mincberg has researched and analyzed the Supreme Court, the Department of Justice, religious liberty and other civil rights/civil liberties issues for more than three decades. He is also a former chief counsel for oversight and investigations of the House Judiciary Committee, where he gained extensive  experience with impeachment proceedings.
