In response to the Senate’s vote to confirm Chad Readler to a lifetime seat on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement.

“Donald Trump’s nomination of Chad Readler, and Republicans’ support for his confirmation, is as clear an example as one could ever need of the GOP’s utter disregard for people with preexisting conditions. At the Department of Justice, Readler went out of his way to attack protections for people with preexisting conditions. His willingness to put his own politics ahead of the law has put millions of people in danger of losing their healthcare. That’s on top of his attacks on voting rights, his defense of the Trump administration’s disgraceful Muslim ban, and his support for efforts to separate immigrant children from their parents. Republicans’ response? To give him a lifetime seat on the federal court of appeals.

“Anyone who has ever faced high blood pressure, given birth, survived cancer, battled any number of diseases or cared about someone who has should be furious at the GOP’s flagrant dishonesty. All their claims that they’d protect people with preexisting conditions were lies—and the proof is their vote for Chad Readler.”
